Terminal is powering off without intervention

Use this guide to understand why a CareBlox terminal may be shutting down and what to check if it powers off during the day.

Written by Katie Airey

CareBlox terminals shut down automatically overnight for maintenance. If a terminal is powering off during the day, it is usually caused by a power or battery issue. Follow the sections below to understand what’s normal and how to check your terminal.

Normal shutdown behaviour

All terminals are set to shut down automatically between 2:00 am and 4:00 am.
This allows system updates and routine maintenance to run.

📌Note: The exact time may vary between units, but it will remain consistent for each terminal.

Terminal turning off during the day

If your terminal is powering off outside of the normal shutdown window, this is usually due to a power supply issue.

  • Older (legacy) terminals may shut down immediately

  • Newer terminals may switch to battery mode, which can be less obvious

Check the battery on newer terminals

If you are using a newer terminal, follow these steps to check the battery status.

  1. Double‑tap the CareBlox logo in the centre of the screen.

  2. Enter the PIN 859146, then tap OK.

  3. Tap the ^ (up arrow) in the bottom‑right corner near the time.

  4. Tap the battery icon.

⚠️Important: If the terminal does not show as plugged in, connect the power cable immediately.

If the battery is below 4%, the terminal may shut down to protect itself.
Leave it plugged in and powered off for at least 1 hour, then turn it back on.

Still having issues?

If the terminal continues to power off, please use our Access Digital Assistant to get support. Include:

  • The home name experiencing the issue

  • Any known causes (for example, power cuts or the unit being unplugged)

  • Any Windows Update error messages, if shown
