Fob not recognised on the terminal

Guide when the fob is not recognised on the terminal.

Written by Katie Airey

CareBlox fob readers only work with CareBlox-issued fobs. Third‑party fobs may not work, and we’re unable to support issues caused by them.

Restarting the CareBlox Software

On current terminals, you can restart the CareBlox software to resolve issues like Wi‑Fi reconnecting.

To restart the software:

  1. Double‑tap the CareBlox logo.

  2. Enter 859146 and press OK.

  3. Once the software closes, double‑tap the CareBlox logo again to reopen it.

Restarting a Legacy Terminal

If the code above doesn’t work, restart the terminal instead:

  1. Press and hold the power button.

  2. Swipe up if prompted to shut down.

  3. Once powered off, press the power button again to restart.

Incorrect Fob Error

If an employee uses a fob that isn’t linked to them, an error message will appear.

How to check:

  1. Swipe the fob and note the alpha‑numeric code shown (for example: 6500a858c6).

  2. Log in to the CareBlox Payroll module.

  3. Go to Employees and double‑click the employee.

  4. Select the T&A tab and check the Fob ID.

  5. If the code doesn’t match, update the Fob ID and click Update.

Fob Linking Issue (Terminal vs System)

If the fob still shows an error, the fob ID on the terminal may not match the ID in the CareBlox system.

  1. Swipe the fob and record the code.

  2. Log in to the Payroll module.

  3. Go to Employees, double‑click the employee.

  4. Open the T&A tab and check the Fob ID.

  5. If incorrect, enter the correct code and click Update.
